Quarter Life Crisis + 1

A Quarter-Life Crisis? | Palm Harbor, FL Patch

It has literally been two years since I've posted my first blog. Two years later and nothing has changed... only that I'm now supposedly be experiencing my quarter life crisis? Actually I'm 26 this year and I know that many are probably in the same boat as me. If you're younger you're lucky, grab some sheets of paper and a pen and write this down. Hopefully, you'll find some helpful tips so that you may avoid this period of your life. I'm just joking, jokes aside..... no I'm not. The sad truth is that all humans sometime in their life will experience this. Here is a helpful definition I've found that explains what is quarter life crisis.

Quoted by Jules Schroeder says that Quarter life crisis is

a period of intense soul- searching and stress occurring in your mid 20's to early 30's, typically because you fell you're not achieving your full potential or are falling behind.

Soul- searching and stress, or in other words anxiety, (plug) If you haven't read my recent post on anxiety, have a read after this. Anyways back to the quote.  I believe that all humans are created to desire, create, imagine, explore and the list goes on. It doesn't help that especially in Australia, we are surrounded by so many things, things that allude and tempt us to fit an image or to be like this person. We have emerged to what the world wants us to be, rather us shaping, changing the world. Our souls are meant to desire something greater, something desirable, something special. It is no wonder we stress or experience anxiety because of what the world wants from us, we constantly fall behind or feel we're not achieving.

So why does this happen during in your mid 20's and 30's? Because that's when we think we have the freedom, the maturity thinking, the opportunities. However, the sad reality is that in your mid 20's to 30's, we are enslaved and chained by the world. The opportunities are limitless, we are in control of our choices and the list goes on.

But are you truly satisfied? does the soul find peace and rest. With more opportunities the soul never stops, there are always ways to do more or to think we can do more. Why? as I mentioned because the choices are endless, the choices are limitless, money is multiplying, it is until the soul finds what its looking for, it will never stop.

As a Christian, a follower of Jesus, I'm not saying I'm not going through this right now, look at what I wrote about anxiety. I'm not saying that Christians wont experience this, I know they will- there are brothers and sisters who are Christians who are going through this same experience with me right now. However, what I would like to say and share is that even though I may be stress about my work, the decisions I make in terms of my career, about my financial stress with bills and buy etc. I can say one thing.. and that one thing is that my soul is at peace, at rest. What do I mean by that? Well to truly know that the things that all humans desire is not from this world, but from above. You can only receive it from God, in other words through God's son Jesus. Jesus says

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)

For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. (Psalm 107:9)

Jesus can only satisfies the longing soul, what we are longing or searching isn't found in my work, my identity, the things that I do, but only in Jesus. It is so liberating.. have you felt this... do you want this... I hope that you can find God, ask God to reveal his son to you. Pray to God, asking him to satisfy the soul, because trust me it is what we were created for. To end, I'm not saying that even though you have prayed and desire this, you will still face this quarter life crisis. But how you face the challenges and make your everyday choices, bring them to God, have God at the frontline making the choices for you and for yourself. As I'm reminded from last week's sermon in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to 'rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Amen
